Burr grinders
Unless you’re using a pod coffee maker or an automatic machine with a built-in grinder, you’re going to need a good coffee grinder at home (friends don’t let friends buy preground coffee!). And a cheap cylindrical grinder with steel blades that spin around and violently does not count as a “good” grinder. What you need is a burr grinder. Your grinder combined with good coffee beans may actually be the most important pieces to your morning coffee routine. Unlike a blade grinder, which pulverizes coffee beans into submission, a burr grinder breaks down beans by rotating them against an abrasive surface. It’s what baristas use at coffee shops and what you should be using at home. Milk frothers
A milk frother is such a simple way to make café au laits, lattes, or cappuccinos at home. And they’re relatively affordable too. A sleek black model from Instant Pot gives you the option to heat your milk as you foam it. A smaller handheld stick model is also on sale right now. It won’t heat your milk, but it’s great if you’re short on space and its still good at its one job: frothing milk.
Electric kettle
For hot tea or pour-over coffee, a kettle is a must-have and we prefer an electric kettle to the kind you have to heat on the stove. An electric kettle will always reach the perfect temperature, just off a boil, and thanks to the auto shutoff feature, it will never boil over or scorch the kettle while empty.
